Hairdresser loses sex discrimination tribunal after claiming her boss gave her £100 for new clothes and offered to give her a better haircut because her appearance was ‘unacceptable’ – Stylist Lisa Thompson was collared by salon owner Luke Daniels after she turned up to work looking ‘untidy’ with unwashed, scraped back hair and no make-up and wearing leggings, a bobbly long black cardigan and flip flops (DailyMail)
  2. Courier who was told by bosses ‘we are not a charity’ after he suffered a heart attack wins nearly £30,000 for unfair dismissal – Peter Strickland was refused sick pay and ignored by bosses at All Job Trading Ltd after he was left unable to drive due to suffering blackouts (Edinburgh News)
  3. Sales manager claimed he was bullied and harassed at work after he was nicknamed ‘Tan FM’ because he talked so much that he was like a radio station – Tan Afsar, an executive at a large biotechnology company, was described as having an ‘ability to chat and entertain’ for long periods of time (DailyMail)
  4. Manager who left work ‘sick’ sacked after being pictured with burger and pint at airport – He was sacked for gross misconduct and later sued for unfair dismissal, but his claims were rejected by an employment tribunal (EssexLive)
  5. Morrisons’ team leader who was sacked for pulling down a colleague’s hijab loses unfair dismissal case after claiming she was just ‘having a laugh’ – Natalie McGonigle who worked for Morrisons pulled down her Muslim colleague’s hijab without her consent on ‘two separate occasions’ in acts which were deemed ‘disrespectful’ towards the colleague’s religion (DailyMail)
  6. Worker who called his boss a ‘stinking b****’ wins claim for unfair dismissal – An employment judge ruled Chee Khai Tan had contributed 80% to his dismissal and awarded him two weeks wages in compensation for his unfair dismissal (The Mirror)

Sleazy banker, 35, loses claim that he was age discrimination victim when he was sacked for sending creepy sex messages to 18-year-old woman after giving her a job – A banker who was sacked for sending lewd sexual messages to a young woman he hired has had his lawsuit thrown out by a tribunal (DailyMail)
  8. Postman sacked for routinely driving van after drinking beer – Ian Partington admitted stopping at the pub for a pint then driving his van home twice a week after work and was even caught with a can of lager in the vehicle (Wales

  10. Health and safety worker, 41, who ‘spiralled into despair’ when he was unfairly dismissed wins £50,000 after he warned bosses he was suicidal then tried to kill himself days after they fired him – Dane Rowe, 41, who worked for British food producers David Wood Baking, had been off work for three months with severe depression and anxiety (DailyMail)
